A man was lynched after killing his cousin in the village of Padasar, located in the area of the Karakat police station, in Rohtas district, Bihar, on Thursday evening.

The two deceased lived in the same village. A dispute over the payment of Rs 20,000 sparked the incident, police said on Friday.

Lallu Yadav, 35, had borrowed 20,000 rupees from his cousin Suman Yadav but did not return it within the agreed timeframe, resulting in recurring insults from Suman in public for several days.

At around 7:30 p.m. Thursday, a drunk Lallu shot Suman in the head, causing him to die instantly.

After hearing the gunshot, Suman’s family members and villagers grabbed and beat Lallu before shooting him in the chest with the same pistol, resulting in his instant death.

Karakat police rushed into the village overnight to check the situation after news of the double killings escalated tension between the two groups. The police team was still camping in the village to prevent the situation from worsening.

Two murder cases, one against the late Lallu Yadav and the other against around 20 to 25 unidentified people, had been recorded and the police were trying to identify the attackers involved in the lynching. The bodies were sent to Sasaram for an autopsy, Karakat SHO Satyendra Paswan said.
