Eurosatory 2022: BIRD Aerosystems aims for the ground

Israel-based BIRD Aerosystems used Eurosatory 2022 to launch two new products.

The Hybrid-Eye hybrid detection system for the protection of armored vehicles and the Micro Maritime Patrol Radar (µMPR), a miniature airborne radar for land and maritime border surveillance, were unveiled in a ceremony on June 14 during the Paris salon.

At an unveiling ceremony on June 14, BIRD Aerosystems officials said the two compact solutions were already under contract with unnamed customers.

In designing Hybrid-Eye and µMPR, BIRD Aerosystems relied on its radar and optical technologies and algorithms already implemented in its airborne solutions.

Using built-in algorithms and sensor technologies, the products can very accurately detect and confirm land or sea targets, company officials said.

Hybrid-Eye is designed for use with active protection systems and vehicle protection systems. BIRD Aerosystems said the solution designed for a single-line replaceable unit enables rapid detection, confirmation and tracking of threats, including anti-tank missiles, RPGs, UAVs and artillery shells.

The detection system uses electronically scanned array radar, IR warning sensors, a laser warning sensor and BIRD’s proprietary fusion algorithms to detect and track threats. The company claims that Hybrid-Eye can do this with multiple threats at the same time.

The lightweight product supports easy installation and maintenance and is compatible with any hard-kill or soft-kill third-party equipment.

The µMPR, on the other hand, can be installed on small drones, small rotary-wing or fixed-wing aircraft.

This system also relies on existing BIRD radar technologies, as well as a millimeter wave solution that allows it to detect objects through the sound of the sea.
