Family of bears spotted wandering through residential Surrey – BC

Spring is in the air, and BC’s bears are out of hibernation and on the prowl.
This meant an increase in bear encounters around British Columbia, including a Saturday away from typical wildlife conflict zones on the North Shore and Tri-Cities regions.

Jason Ahn was in his neighborhood just after noon on Saturday when he spotted the trio of Bruins roaming Fleetwood near 165 Street and 86 Avenue.

“The only concern for me was that the neighbors were outside and couldn’t see the animals, especially the children next to our house,” Ahn told Global News.
“The safety of others was the only thing that came to my mind.”

Global News has requested more information from the BC Conservation Officer Service.
This is the latest in a series of bear encounters in 2021. On Friday, a bear hit a hiker on Mt. Fromme in North Vancouver, leaving him with minor injuries.
In March, a wayward bear made its way to the outskirts of downtown Vancouver before being calmed down and moved.
