LAFC sends Brian Rodriguez to Spanish club Almeria on loan – Daily News
Brian Rodriguez of Los Angeles Football Club is heading to Europe.
Rodriguez, 20, will join Almeria in Spain’s second division on loan. The loan, which begins immediately, will become permanent if “certain performance thresholds are reached”.
The move took place on Monday, the last day of the winter transfer period across Europe.
“Brian joins Almería as they push for promotion into the Spanish Premier League,” LAFC co-chairman and general manager John Thorrington. “Since arriving in 2019, Brian has been at the center of our attack and our success, and we believe this agreement will give him the opportunity to play meaningful matches at the highest level in European football.”
Rodriguez was signed as the designated player in August 2019 from Penarol, Uruguay for a reported fee of $ 11.5 million.
During his short stint with LAFC, the right-winger made 26 appearances, scoring two goals and seven assists.
He joins a club from Almeria which currently occupies third place in the second division and is fighting for promotion to the first division.
Rodriguez had been linked with several clubs in Europe almost since joining LAFC.
The loan agreement is until the end of the Almeria season in May.
Assuming the loan becomes permanent, the move opens up a designated player spot for LAFC. Carlos Vela and Diego Rossi occupy the other two.
