Middleboro, state police looking for an active shooter

Updated (10:52 a.m. July 9) – Police details on the suspect’s description, number of shots fired and location have been added.

MIDDLEBORO – Middleboro Police are reporting an active shooter situation in the area of ​​201 West Grove Street (Route 28) and Evergreen Drive.

Residents are asked to stay away from the area or take shelter in place.

Police say a shooting incident was reported just after 9 a.m.

Officers responded to a Massachusetts Department of Transportation public works depot at 201 West Grove St. to investigate a report of gunfire.

Police said about four to five shots were fired inside the facility before a male suspect fled on foot into the woods.

No injuries were reported.

Police have set up a perimeter and are actively searching for the suspect, described by witnesses as a fair-skinned black or Asian man, about five feet 10 inches tall and wearing a bucket hat.
He is believed to be armed and dangerous.

State Police posted on Twitter that soldiers were helping with the search.

State Police say the suspect is wearing fatigues and fled into the woods west of Evergreen on Highway 28.

A reverse call for a shelter-in-place 911 has been made, state police say.
