Other Proposed Improvements to Tullamore City Park
A number of other improvements are proposed for Tullamore City Park.
Tom Shanahan, Director of Services, told Offaly County Council’s recent meeting that the council had made a planning application for the improvements.
The formal request reads: “In accordance with Part 8 of the Planning and Development Regulations 2001 – 2007, Offaly County Council hereby gives notice of proposals for the installation of new toilets and caretaker facilities as well a covered outdoor entertainment area at Lloyd Town Park, Tullamore, County Offaly.
“The development has undergone appropriate assessment review in accordance with the EU Habitats Directive and the Planning and Development Act 2000 as amended. The Appropriate Assessment screening concluded that the proposed development would not be likely to result in significant or undetermined impacts on a European site. »
Mr Shanahan said the new toilets will replace the existing ones and the entertainment area will be a very positive addition to the park. “It will involve a bandstand and a paved area,” he remarked.
Cllr Seán O’Brien welcomed the news, noting that the local municipal district had been seeking these improvements for a long time.
Cllr John Carroll welcomed the news. He pointed out that public toilets are needed in other towns in Offaly, including Birr. He asked where the funding came from for the maintenance of public facilities such as public restrooms and entertainment areas.
Mr. Shanahan pointed out that there is a guard at Lloyd Park, who does an excellent job.
The park is a great amenity for city dwellers and includes a popular playground for children and a bowling alley for adults. There is also a water feature and walkways that meander through the park.
