The beauty of nature and the wonders of recycled art
To celebrate Earth Day in April, the “Art for Life + Upcycled” exhibition paid tribute to the beautiful planet we live on, highlighting ways to make it a happier and healthier world.
A joint project of SM Aura Premier and ArtisteSpace, Inc., the consecutive exhibition on the upper ground floor of SM Aura Premier aims to connect art and sustainability and raise environmental awareness through the works amazing artists- advocates.
Renowned Hawaii-based artist Juno Galang with her paintings “Fish Series” – “Blowing Bubbles” and “Two Fishes”.
Established Filipino sculptor Arnel Borja with his balanced artwork “Xygene” in found mixed media.
Bing Famoso Tac-an, and advocate of endemic flora and fauna, depicts larger-than-life versions of very small Hoya Camphorifolia and Hoya Bicolenesis flowers in his works.
Boysie Villavicencio, fashion designer turned visual artist, with his paintings “White Corals”, “Corals in Lavender and Red” and “An Aquarium for You and Me”.

“Art for Life” showcases the beauty of nature, enjoys life, and gives importance to the things around everyone. Hawaiian artist Juno Galang presents herself in the depths of tropical seas with her dazzling series of fish in vibrant hues of purple, green, yellow, red and blue that characterize her true nature. Fashion designer turned visual artist Boysie Villavicencio’s coral paintings, meanwhile, reveal his attention to detail and sense of the exquisite. A defender of the flora and fauna endemic to the Philippines, Bing Famoso-Tac-an showcases rare flowers and birds of native species on his canvases and clothing.
“Upcycled,” on the other hand, features artwork from discarded things that are transformed into contemporary artwork and sculpture. Aeronautical engineer, sculptor Arnel Borja demonstrates his ideas about balance in new works that use fulcrums to achieve the weights and counterweights necessary for the concept. Swedish artist-musician Janet Kamphuis, who believes that “art is oxygen”, breathes creative life into her mixed media and wooden canvases.
Art for Life + Upcycled aims to promote the growing importance of Earth Day as an annual celebration by keeping environmental awareness front and center for all buyers.
With this, “We have been working on our operational elements to maintain our way of doing business and align efforts that will directly or indirectly benefit the planet, its people and its communities”, said the general manager of ArtisteSpace Inc. ., Anton Magpantay.
