New Delhi: Ohmium International, a US-based renewable energy start-up, announced on Tuesday that it had launched India’s first gigantic green hydrogen electrolyzer plant in Bengaluru through its Indian subsidiary.

The gigafactory will manufacture India-made proton exchange membrane (PEM) hydrogen electrolysers with an initial manufacturing capacity of around 500 MW per year and scale it up to 2 GW per year.

According to the company’s press release, the PEM Hydrogen Chlorinator is the primary equipment for producing green hydrogen as it uses energy generated from renewable resources to break down water into hydrogen and oxygen.

“Our products are modular, efficient and of great value. This ensures that they can be used to achieve discounted hydrogen costs that support the growth of the Indian economy, ”said Arne Ballantine, CEO and co-founder of Ohmium.

The start-up has developed technology that can be both distributed and scalable.

“We are firmly aligned with India’s vision … By further increasing the production of green hydrogen in India, we aim to make the country a green fuel export hub,” said Pashupathy Gopalan, a Ohmium investor.

The company said it would ensure the availability of an end-to-end solution in the country and reduce reliance on imports for this key piece of equipment.
